MICHAEL GRENNELL

 

Michael began his acting career over 30 years ago and has played in every major theatre in Ireland, including three years with the Abbey Theatre Company and four years with Radio Eireann Players. Favourite roles from the past include Capt. Lancy in Translations, Liffier in Mary Makebelieve and The Prince of Morocco in The Merchant of Venice all at The Abbey. Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar at The Lyric Belfast, Mr. Snow in Carousel, the IRA officer in The Hostage, Bert Healy/Roosevelt in Annie and the MC in The Rocky Horror Show all at the Tivoli. For Calypso Theatre Co. Michael played various parts in Talking to Terrorists, Ba Gia In How High is Up at The Ark Theatre and for Second Age Theatre Co. Claudius in Hamlet and the lead role in Othello. At the Cork Opera House Michael has appeared as Capt Von Trapp in The Sound of Music, Curley in Oklahoma, Mr Parchester in Me and My Girl, DeValera in Michael Collins The Musical and most recently Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd. At the Olympia Theatre Michael has been The Tinman in The Wizard of Oz and Harold in The Full Monty and for the past eight years Michael has had the pleasure of doing the Gaiety Panto. Playing Ugly Sister/Baron Hardup in Cinderella, Widow Twankey/Abanazer/Garda Pong in Aladdin, Francis Finicky in Beauty and the Beast, The Evil Squire in Mother Goose, Fleshcreep in Jack and the Beanstalk and this year he gets to play Capt. Birdseye in Robinson Crusoe and the Caribbean Pirates. Recent Film and TV work includes My Boy Jack, The Tudors, The Clinic, Benedict Arnold, No Tears, The Abduction Club, Ballykissangel, McCadden and Fair City.
