MARIA YOUNG

PRODUCTION MANAGER / CO-PRODUCER

Maria has been instrumental in bringing this premier production of Guerilla Days in Ireland to the stage. Work that began in earnest in the summer of 2010 led to a reading of the adaptation at the Harbour Commissioner’s House in Cork the following November resulting is this production. It has been a very special project not least because of the many people we have spoken to who knew Tom Barry personally, but also those we met who continue to read, admire and are passionate about the complex man, Tom Barry, writer of this classic.

Maria is a freelance Line Producer / Production Manager and has managed numerous musicals, operas and plays for the main stage at Cork Opera House, the Half Moon Theatre and on occasion for the Everyman Palace. Highlights of the last couple years include Dido and Aeneas, Michael Collins the musical drama at Cork Opera House and the Olympia Theatre, Dublin, West Side Story, The Lonesome West co production between the Opera House and the Town Hall Galway. She has been the Line Producer on the last nine pantomimes at Cork Opera House and is working on her tenth, Cinderella for the 2011 season.

As a freelance Maria works with many other groups and organisations in Cork City; in June and July last she travelled with the Cork International Girls Choir to Shanghai and Pecs the European capital of Culture; she has coordinated the St Patrick’s Day Festival Parade for the City Council for the last four years and managed various other events for them including the Chinese New Year Celebrations at City Hall. Maria was the Production Manager for all the former Opera 2005’s productions and has undertaken several national tours with various plays. Most recent work includes All Star Wars and Sweeney Todd both at Cork Opera House and The Winter’s Tale with Corcadorca Theatre Company coming this October.
